New Teacher Academy
At Christopher Columbus Middle School in Clifton, NJ, we host monthly in-house professional development for non-tenured teachers. Topics range from best practices in classroom management, student engagement, and co-teaching to having difficult conversations with peers. Teachers have the opportunity to learn from an expert, while also engaging in meaningful conversations with their peers. See how you can train your teaching staff in a number of different topics here.
SEL Coaching
Stillman Elementary School in Tenafly, NJ offers coaching in social emotional learning for their grade teams. Each grade team meets with an SEL coach to discuss successes and concerns with the culture and climate of their classrooms. The SEL coach then models practices like building self-awareness, developing personal responsibility, and practicing active listening while teachers observe. The final debrief includes planning for implementation and sustainability. If you’d like to see how your teachers can receive SEL coaching, click here.
Whole Staff Professional Development
Harding Elementary School in Kenilworth, NJ dedicated three faculty meetings to building culture and community amongst staff members this year. Over the course of the three meetings, teachers worked together to identify committees that could boost morale in the building. Some of those committees were: a book club focused on supporting middle school boys, a new teacher support group, a school “challenges” group (think cafeteria Olympics), and a teacher well-being group.
